Pacifier, noonie, binky, whatever you want to call it...?

my daughter LOVES her noonie (that's what we call it, and she calls it "nu nu")... she's 17 months.. and i can't wait to take it away from her. any suggestions? i would love it just take it away cold turkey, but i'm afraid it would be too hard on her. i have done research about it. and i get conflicting information. half says slowly ween it away and half say to do it cold turkey. anyone FROM EXPERIENCE has done this, any good suggestions? oh and i have actually weened it away to only give it to her when she's ready to sleep.
