How would you deal with a co worker like this? 10pnts!?

How do I explain this? I am very confused about this guy at work, I have always been weary of him, like I get a bad vibe about him. He is very forward, and talks like he is some kind of drill sergeant. This guy started about 2 years ago. When we had our boss before, he was considered an equal like the rest of us. Everyone liked this boss except for him. Most of us have been there for years, so he is still really new. When our boss left, the manager had to take over. Anyways, this guy started brown nosing to him and all the other head honchos of the company. Seriously, it is obvious. When the manager went on vacation, he put this guy and a couple of other people in charge of the lab. This guy went nuts and started telling everyone what to do. He would would ask me five times a day if I was done or what the status was. I had no problem making shipments before, and have be told I am a good worker. I really didn't need him telling me how to do my job. Believe me, he pissed off a lot of people. He is trying so hard to be the supervisor. It is really annoying. When the manager came back, he took credit for all the work everyone did. Now he is the manager's pet! The manager is giving him more and more power. This guy is so power hungry that he will step on anyone who tries to disagree. I have over heard him kicking back in the manager's office and talking bad about people. We are all fearing that the manager will make him a supervisor. I fear for my job, because he knows I have a problem with him. I try to keep it to my self as much as I can, but I can't take it anymore. This guy is stressing me out so bad. I have pulled him aside and told him to leave me alone. Two people are considering leaving the company. The manager only sees dollar signs, not retention. If this guy becomes our boss, I am so screwed. Why wont the manager open his eyes and realize that people aren't happy with this guy stepping on people. He is going to lose some good people. I have heard a few co workers complain about him. I wish he would just go back to being a technician like the rest of us. I would pick any other tech to be a supervisor over him.
