How do I get to the ranger regiment? Recruiter trick?

My eyesight is slightly too bad to take the airborne physical. My recruiter says that I can join the regiment eventually anyway after I get LASIK in the Army but I won't have the ranger or airborne options. My uncle who is an infantryman says I should become a dep loss and get LASIK then sign up again and get the airborne and ranger options. Who is right and who is wrong and what would be the consequences of each action? List your source.
